Sunderland remain without Habib Diarra, who is recovering from a thigh or hamstring injury, and Romaine Mundle, who is sidelined with a knee problem. Chemsdine Talbi, Jocelin Ta Bi, Melker Ellborg, Alan Browne and Aji Alese were omitted from Sunderland’s Europa League squad and are therefore unavailable. Reinildo Mandava is eligible despite his red card against Arsenal because his suspension applies only to domestic competition.
Régis Le Bris has indicated that he intends to select a strong side rather than make extensive changes. Robin Roefs, Nordi Mukiele, Granit Xhaka, Enzo Le Fée and Brian Brobbey are all expected to start, while Malick Fofana is pushing for his first appearance in the starting eleven.
AZ are expected to be without Denso Kasius and Stije Resink, while goalkeeper Hobie Verhulst is ineligible.
