The German capital will welcome many of the world’s leading distance runners on Sunday, 27 September 2026, for the 52nd edition of the BMW Berlin Marathon. Renowned for its flat, fast course and rich history of world records, the race promises another exciting contest through Berlin’s iconic streets.

The 2026 BMW Berlin Marathon will be shown live on television and digital platforms worldwide. Coverage is scheduled to begin at 8:30am Central European Summer Time (GMT+2).

WOMEN:
Tigst Assefa headlines an exceptionally strong women’s race. The Ethiopian won in Berlin in 2022 before setting a then-world record of 2:11:53 on the course in 2023. She returns after winning the 2026 London Marathon in 2:15:41.
Defending champion Rosemary Wanjiru will also return after winning the 2025 race in 2:21:05. Her personal best is 2:16:14.

Assefa is targeting another major performance, while Pfeiffer is expected to challenge the German record.
MEN:
The men’s field includes seven athletes with personal bests under 2:05 and approximately 30 who have broken 2:08. Ethiopia’s Guye Adola, the 2021 Berlin champion, is among the leading contenders after winning the 2026 Rotterdam Marathon in 2:03:54.

Bekele returns to a race he won in 2016 and 2019. His 2:01:41 performance in 2019 missed the world record by only two seconds.
