World leads, a European record and a cascade of meeting marks lit up a packed Atletická hala as the Czech Indoor Gala delivered one of the highest-quality meets of the indoor season.

Global leaders came from Eliott Crestan (800m, 1:43.83), Pia Skrzyszowska (60m hurdles, 7.78), Jordan Geist (shot put, 22.04m), Birke Haylom (1500m, 4:00.62) and Lieke Klaver (400m, 51.00).
Hungary’s Attila Molnár stole headlines with a European 400m record of 45.01, while meeting records fell to Mattia Furlani, Nigist Getachew, Jakub Szymański and Isaac Nader.

Back-to-back winners included Crestan, Molnár, Furlani, Nader, Klaver and Tina Šutej, underlining the meet’s tradition of repeat excellence.

Men’s 800m

Crestan produced one of the deepest 800m races ever run indoors, setting a Belgian indoor record and meeting record of 1:43.83, moving to fourth on the world indoor all-time list.

Poland’s Maciej Wyderka clocked 1:44.07 to break Adam Kszczot’s national mark, while Ireland’s Mark English improved his own record to 1:44.23. Dutch champion Samuel Chapple (1:44.75) and Croatia’s Marino Bloudek (1:45.27 NR) completed a remarkable series of best-ever placings.

“The race felt smooth… I aimed for 1:45 and it became 1:43. That’s great for me,” said Crestan.

Men’s 400m

Molnár turned the two-lap race into a solo exhibition, blasting 45.01 to shave 0.04 off the long-standing European indoor record and lower his own meeting mark.

Dutchman Jonas Phijffers equalled the national record with 45.48, while Czech Vít Müller took third in 46.28.

“Maybe I’m an indoor guy,” Molnár smiled. “Now we want to break the injury cycle and go even faster.”

Sprint hurdles double

Skrzyszowska dominated the women’s 60m hurdles, clocking 7.78 in the heats and 7.80 in the final to confirm world-lead form.

Szymański matched that authority in the men’s race, winning in 7.48, his third straight victory this winter and a meeting record previously held by Dayron Robles. American Eric Edwards set a PB of 7.53 for second.

Men’s long jump

Furlani delivered another statement win with 8.30m in round five. Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou responded with 8.23m, while Bozhidar Saraboyukov opened strongly at 8.21m. Furlani’s consistent series featured four jumps beyond eight metres.

“Competing with Tentoglou always pushes me to grow,” said the Italian star.

Men’s shot put

Geist powered the shot out to 22.04m, the first 22-metre throw of the season indoors. Jamaica’s Rajindra Campbell (21.04m) and Poland’s Konrad Bukowiecki (20.60m) followed.

Women’s 1500m

Haylom controlled the pace from the front to improve her world lead to 4:00.62. Ethiopia swept the podium with PBs for Saron Berhe and Hareggeweyn Kalayu, while Portugal’s Salomé Afonso set a national record of 4:01.98.

Women’s 400m

Klaver claimed a fourth straight Ostrava victory in 51.00, the fastest indoor time in the world this year. Czech teenager Lurdes Manuel impressed with 51.12, and Slovakia’s Emma Zapletalová set a national record of 51.24.

Women’s 800m

Getachew led from gun to tape to dip under two minutes in 1:59.98, a meeting record. Slovenia’s Gabriela Gajanova (2:00.45 NR) and Switzerland’s Valentina Rosamilia (2:00.78 PB) followed.

Men’s 3000m

Nader returned to the distance for the first time in four years and won in 7:38.05, a meeting record, just ahead of South Africa’s Tshepo Tshite (7:38.17 NR).

Women’s pole vault

Šutej cleared 4.70m to claim her fifth Ostrava title, narrowly missing the meeting record at 4.83m.

“I always feel at home here,” she said.
