The final entry lists for the 2026 World Athletics Cross Country Championships underline the truly global scale of the sport’s flagship off-road event, with 485 athletes from 52 federations confirmed for competition in Tallahassee, Florida, on Saturday, 10 January.

The senior individual races feature 246 athletes (101 women and 145 men), while 163 athletes (76 women and 87 men) will line up in the U20 events. Fifteen teams have been entered for the mixed relay.

Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo headlines the men’s field as the defending champion, pursuing an exceptional third consecutive world cross-country title after victories in Bathurst 2023 and Belgrade 2024. He will be backed by teammate Dan Kibet, part of Uganda’s silver-medal team at the last edition.

Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi, runner-up to Kiplimo at the past two championships, is set to reignite the rivalry and is joined by Biniam Mehary and Tadese Worku. The deep men’s entry list also includes France’s world 10,000m champion Jimmy Gressier, European cross-country champion Thierry Ndikumwenayo, and Kenya’s world half-marathon silver medallist Daniel Ebenyo.

The senior women’s race sees world 10km record-holder Agnes Ngetich return to World Cross Country competition for the first time since claiming bronze in Bathurst 2023. She leads a strong Kenyan squad alongside national trials winner Maurine Chebor. Uganda counters with Sarah Chelangat and Joy Cheptoyek, while Ethiopia fields former U20 champion Senayet Getachew.

In the U20 categories, Ethiopia’s Marta Alemayo returns at just 17 years of age to defend her world title. Kenya aims to retain the mixed relay crown with a gold-medal core from Belgrade that includes world 1500m bronze medallist Reynold Cheruiyot, Purity Chepkirui, and Kyumbe Munguti.

As hosts, Team USA present a balanced roster combining senior experience and emerging collegiate talent. The American team features Weini Kelati, Emily Venters, Grace Hartman, Rocky Hansen, Nico Young, and Graham Blanks, supported by competitive U20 and mixed relay line-ups highlighted by Blair Bartlett, Gracie Morris, Sage Hurta-Klecker, and relay standouts Ahmed Muhumed and Parker Wolfe—underscoring the depth and ambition of the host nation.
