First-leg context and recent form

The opening encounter was closely contested, with Sint-Truiden holding 57% possession but producing only three shots on target compared with Omonia’s two. The match remained goalless until Taniguchi converted Ryan Merlen’s cross from close range during stoppage time.

Omonia’s European matches have been extremely tight this season: none of their five qualifiers has produced more than one goal for either team. Henning Berg’s side have also demonstrated their strength in Nicosia, recording notable European home victories over Rapid Vienna, Wolfsberger AC and Dynamo Kyiv since the beginning of 2024-25.

Sint-Truiden enter the second leg unbeaten in their opening three competitive matches of the season, following two Belgian league draws with the first-leg victory. However, the Canaries have won only one of their last six competitive away fixtures.

Team news

Omonia Nicosia

Omonia’s official 23-man squad includes Mihlali Mayambela, Jure Balkovec, Mateo Marić and Panagiotis Andreou, despite earlier reports suggesting fitness concerns involving some of those players.

However, defenders Fotis Kitsos and Moses Odubajo are not included in the matchday squad and are therefore unavailable. Kitsos has been recovering from a serious knee injury.

Berg may retain the starting side used in Belgium, although he has several attacking alternatives. Anastasios Chatzigiovanis is pushing to replace Jaden Montnor on the left, while Andronikos Kakoullis could be preferred to Loïs Diony at centre-forward. Mayambela’s inclusion gives the coach another wide attacking option.

Sint-Truiden

Sint-Truiden have not reported any major new absences and should travel with an almost complete squad.

New signing Samed Baždar is pushing to start after replacing Frédéric Soelle Soelle at halftime in the first leg and making a positive impact. Arbnor Muja, who contributed six goals and two assists last season, is also competing with Kaito Matsuzawa for a place on the right.

Taniguchi and Visar Musliu should continue in central defence, while Ryan Merlen—who assisted the first-leg winner—is expected to retain his advanced midfield role.
