Egnatia competed well during much of the opening match and reached half-time level at 1-1, but two Shamrock Rovers goals early in the second period transformed the tie.

The Albanian champions now require a victory by at least two goals to force extra time. However, they have won by a margin of two or more in only two of their 17 UEFA matches.

Nevil Dede’s side can take some confidence from an unbeaten four-match home run across all competitions, including three victories. Their defence remains a concern, though, after conceding eight goals across their last three European home fixtures.

Shamrock Rovers followed their first-leg success with a 3-2 domestic victory over Dundalk, maintaining their lead at the top of the League of Ireland Premier Division.

The hosts are expected to retain their 3-5-2 system, with Eneo Bitri organising the defence and Fernando Medeiros, Altin Kryeziu and Ibrahim Diabaté providing midfield protection.

Daniel Adjessa and Ildi Gruda are likely to start together in attack, while first-leg scorer Guillem Jaime should operate as the right wing-back.
