Course Map - Haspa Hamburg Marathon

The Hamburg Marathon course is known for being flat, fast, and scenic — ideal for personal bests and record attempts.

It starts and finishes near the Hamburg Messe exhibition center, winding through the heart of the city. Runners pass major landmarks like the Binnenalster Lake, the Elbchaussee waterfront, the Reeperbahn entertainment district, and the historic Speicherstadt warehouse district. The route is mostly wide and smooth, with very few sharp turns, helping athletes maintain a steady rhythm. Crowds line much of the course, creating an energetic, supportive atmosphere from start to finish.

Start (Hamburg Messe)

  • Near the exhibition halls in the city center. Wide roads allow a clean start.

5 km (Reeperbahn)

  • Famous nightlife street, flat and lined with lively crowds.

10 km (Elbchaussee)

  • Scenic stretch along the Elbe River. Gentle undulations but still fast.

15 km (Altona district)

  • Residential areas with good crowd support; mostly flat streets.

Halfway Point (~21.1 km, near Binnenalster Lake)

  • Iconic city center lake, very flat, often a crucial split-check for pacing.

25–30 km (Eppendorf and Stadtpark)

  • Leafy, green sections. Slightly quieter but perfect for focusing.

30–35 km (Winterhude district)

  • Urban neighborhoods, some minor turns but still very fast.

35–40 km (Back toward City Center)

  • Crowds thicken again. Slight gradual inclines but manageable.

Finish (Hamburg Messe)

Same area as the start; a fast, straight final stretch that rewards strong finishers.

Key features:

  • Elevation: Minimal overall; tiny rollers but no real hills.
  • Road surface: Mostly smooth asphalt.
  • Wind: Can be a factor along the Elbe, but usually manageable.
  • Spectator support: Dense in city areas, lighter in parks.
