BAUHAUS-galan Indoor: Glave stuns sprint stars as records and world leads fall in Stockholm

Romell Glave delivered one of the standout moments of the night at the BAUHAUS-galan Indoor, upsetting a world-class field to win the men’s 60m at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting in Stockholm on Thursday, January 22.
After a false start recalled the field, Glave powered through the middle of the track to seal a significant early-season victory. He a personal best of 6.51, holding off world and European indoor champion Jeremiah Azu, who finished strongly for second in 6.54. World and Olympic 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson completed the podium in 6.56 in just the second indoor race of his career.

The women’s 60m produced a Jamaican clean sweep, led by Jonielle Smith, who stormed to victory in 7.12 ahead of twins Tina and Tia Clayton, both timed at 7.14.

Norway’s 19-year-old Håkon Moe Berg delivered a sensational season opener at the BAUHAUS-galan Indoor, producing an unchallenged victory in the 1500m with an indoor personal best and early-season world lead of 3:34.32. The double European U20 champion tracked the pacemaker before surging clear with three laps remaining to seal a commanding win.

Ethiopia’s Mosisa Seyoum (3:39.54) and France’s Arthur Gervais (3:39.76) followed, with Sweden’s 1:43 800m specialist, Andreas Kramer, fourth in a lifetime best 3:39.92.
In the women’s 1500m, Ethiopia’s Birke Haylom impressed with a commanding solo run, winning by more than nine seconds in 4:02.61, another early world lead.
Swedish athlete Carl Bengtström powered to victory in the men’s 400m in 46.45. Finland’s national record holder, Mette Baas, stood out in the women’s 400m, winning in 52.57.
Elsewhere, Swedish athlete Ayla Hallberg Hossain claimed the women’s long jump with a personal-best 6.56m, achieved with her final attempt. Jamaica’s global medallist Danniel Thomas-Dodd dominated the shot put, producing a world-leading 19.00m, also with her last throw. Belgium’s Jef Vermeiren topped the men’s high jump after clearing 2.24m, while Sweden’s Yared Kidane shaved almost two seconds off his indoor personal best to take victory in the men’s 800m in 1:48.20.
With world leads, meeting records, and breakthrough performances, the BAUHAUS-galan Indoor once again delivered a compelling start to the European indoor season.
