Historic Course, World-Class Fields:
The Cinque Mulini’s charm is rooted in its history—held every year since 1933—and its unmistakable route that winds through old water mills, narrow farm paths, and uneven terrain along the Olona River. The race layout typically features multiple laps, including indoor-outdoor transitions through mill structures, offering athletes a test unlike any other on the circuit.
This year’s edition features a powerful lineup. Matthew Kipkoech Kipruto of Kenya, last year’s champion and one of the most consistent performers on the World Cross Country Tour, returns to defend his title. Ethiopia’s Yenenesh Shimket, the reigning women’s champion, is also back after establishing herself as a force on European cross country terrain.
Italian fans will have plenty to cheer for as well. Iliass Aouani, fresh off a breakthrough marathon season that included a World Championships bronze and an elite 2:06 performance in Valencia, headlines the home team. Rising Italian star Pietro Arese adds further depth to the local contingent, aiming to challenge the East African frontrunners on home soil.
