Sprint star Lachlan Kennedy delivered a commanding performance to be crowned Australia’s fastest man for the first time, headlining an action-packed third day at the 2026 Australian Athletics Championships in Sydney.
Kennedy clocked a championship record of 9.96 (+0.5), matching his effort from the previous day and reinforcing his status as the nation’s premier sprinter. After a strong start from Rohan Browning and Joshua Azzopardi, Kennedy surged clear in the second half of the race to claim a decisive victory, breaking the 10-second barrier for the third time in his career. Azzopardi secured silver in 10.16, with Browning taking bronze in 10.19.

In the women’s 100m, Georgia Harris emerged as Australia’s fastest woman, powering to victory in 11.50 (-0.4). Harris edged a tightly contested finish ahead of Chloe Mannix-Power, who clocked 11.52, while Ebony Lane finished third in 11.54.

Olympic champion Nina Kennedy added another national title to her collection, clearing 4.65m to secure her fifth Australian crown in the women’s pole vault. The victory highlighted her steady return to competition as she builds toward the upcoming international season.
Rising middle-distance talent Cameron Myers delivered one of the standout performances of the meet, completing a remarkable double. The 19-year-old followed his 1500m triumph with victory in the 5000m, setting a personal best of 13:11.66. He held off defending champion Seth O'Donnell, who finished close behind in 13:12.42.
Elsewhere, Roman Anastasios claimed his first national title in the men’s high jump with a clearance of 2.20m, while Cara Feain-Ryan triumphed in the women’s 3000m steeplechase in 9:35.87.
The men’s 400m saw Reece Holder break through for his first national title, holding on in a tightly contested finish to win in 45.11. Luke Van Ratingen chased hard to take silver in 45.25.
In the women’s 400m, Ellie Beer secured her fourth national crown, producing a well-timed run to win in 52.13 ahead of early leader Mia Gross.
In the field events, world bronze medallist Mackenzie Little claimed her fifth consecutive national title in the women’s javelin with a best throw of 58.76m. Lianna Davidson pushed her throughout the competition, finishing second with 58.28m.
