Madrid, December 31 — Spain’s Marta García claimed her second consecutive victory at the San Silvestre Vallecana, stopping the clock at 31:11 to set the fastest Spanish women’s performance ever recorded on the Madrid streets. In the men’s race, pre-race favorite Geoffrey Kamworor lived up to expectations with a commanding 27:40 win.
Men’s race: Kamworor takes control
The elite international race shared the same start before finishing inside the Estadio de Vallecas. From the gun, Kamworor—three-time world half marathon champion and two-time New York City Marathon winner—set a fierce pace, briefly matched by Jesús Ramos. After six kilometers, the Kenyan surged clear and powered home alone in 27:40.
Spain celebrated a double podium behind him: Jesús Ramos was second in 27:56, with Aarón Las Heras third in 28:00. Just outside the top three were Carlos Mayo (5th, 28:19) and a strong Spanish contingent rounding out the top ten, including Pol Oriach, Nassim Hassaous, Alejandro Quijada, Juan Antonio Pérez, and Eduardo Menacho.

Women’s race: García’s decisive move
On the women’s side, García confirmed her superb form only three days after winning San Silvestre León. She engaged in a thrilling duel with Dutch star Diane Van Es, the European 5km road record-holder, until unleashing a decisive surge just over a kilometer from the finish.
The European Championships bronze medalist over 5000m (Rome 2024) and Tokyo World Championships finalist timed her effort perfectly through Vallecas to secure victory in 31:11, slicing eight seconds off her own Spanish national record from 2024. Van Es followed in 31:18, while Carla Gallardo improved on last year’s fifth place to finish third in 31:25.
Other Spaniards featured prominently in the top ten, including Fátima Ouhaddou (5th, 31:58), Lucía Rodríguez (6th, 32:28), Lidia Campo (7th, 32:35), Azucena Díaz (8th, 33:23), and Laura Priego (10th, 33:42).
