More than 8,300 runners take over Monterrey streets in electrifying Powerade Monterrey Marathon

The city of Monterrey once again confirmed its place on the international running map as the Powerade Monterrey Marathon 2025 delivered an action-packed race day marked by elite-level competition, dramatic finishes, and massive participation.
More than 8,300 runners across multiple categories took part in the event, which got underway at 6:45 a.m. from Parque Fundidora. At the sound of the starting gun, the field surged onto the main avenues of the metropolitan area, setting the stage for a memorable morning of racing.
The men’s elite race produced a thrilling photo-finish showdown. Ethiopia’s Abe Gashahun emerged victorious after an intense head-to-head battle that lasted the full 42.195 kilometers. Locked shoulder to shoulder for much of the race, Gashahun unleashed a decisive surge in the final 100 meters to edge past Kenya’s Evans Mayaka and claim the title.

Just four seconds separated first and second place, underlining the intensity of a race that remained undecided until the final straight.
In the women’s race, Isabel Guadalupe Oropeza delivered a commanding and composed performance to take victory in 2:38:00. The athlete from Tonalá, Jalisco once again flew the Mexican flag high, confirming her consistency and strength on one of the country’s most demanding marathon stages.

A route through the heart of Monterrey
The course guided runners from Parque Fundidora through Avenida Revolución, Garza Sada and Lázaro Cárdenas, before entering San Pedro Garza García via Calzada del Valle. From there, athletes descended through Humberto Lobo and returned along Morones Prieto toward the finish line. Spectators lined the streets throughout the route, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere that carried runners from start to finish.
With another highly successful edition completed, the Powerade Monterrey Marathon now turns its attention to 2026, when the event will celebrate its 20th edition. Organizers promise an even bigger, faster, and more memorable experience, and runners from Mexico and around the world are already invited to be part of what is shaping up to be an unforgettable celebration of running in Monterrey.
