Olympic silver medalist Kishane Thompson delivered a sensational performance on Friday night, clocking a lifetime best and world-leading 9.75 seconds (+0.8 m/s) to storm to victory in the men’s 100m final on Day 2 of the JAAA National Senior and Junior Athletics Championships at Kingston’s National Stadium.
Thompson, who lowered his previous best of 9.77 from last season, equaled the stadium record set by Yohan Blake in 2012—establishing himself as Jamaica’s top male sprinter heading into the Paris Olympic Games. It’s also the fastest time recorded globally since 2015 and moves Thompson to sixth on the all-time world rankings.
Despite showing signs of discomfort before the race, Oblique Seville finished strong for second in 9.83 seconds, while Ackeem Blake produced a personal best of 9.88 seconds to round out the podium.
Ryiem Forde impressed with a massive breakthrough, clocking 9.98 for fourth. The rest of the final included:

On the women’s side, Tina Clayton stole the show with a commanding run to her first national senior title, clocking a personal best 10.81 seconds in the 100m final. The two-time World U20 champion held off Shericka Jackson, who finished second with a season’s best 10.88 seconds.
But it was the evergreen Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, competing in what is expected to be her final national championships, who brought the stadium to its feet. The five-time world 100m champion dug deep to finish third in 10.91 seconds (+0.1 m/s), matching her season’s best and earning a likely berth to one last Olympic Games at the age of 38.
Olympic finalist Tia Clayton, twin sister of the champion, pulled up before the finish line and did not complete the race.

The men’s and women’s 400m semifinals also provided thrilling performances as contenders positioned themselves for Saturday’s finals.
In the men’s 400m, Jevaughn Powell blazed to a semifinal-leading 44.90 seconds, demonstrating superb form. He was followed by Rusheen McDonald in 45.18 seconds and Sean Bailey, who clocked 45.38 seconds.
In the women’s 400m, NCAA standout Nickisha Pryce led all qualifiers with an impressive 50.51 seconds, showcasing the dominance she’s built throughout the season. She was closely followed by Leah Anderson (51.03), Dejanea Oakley (51.05), and Stacey-Ann Williams (51.12), with Candice McLeod also advancing in 52.43 seconds.
