A night of fast sprinting and thrilling performances unfolded at the Racers Grand Prix on Saturday, June 7, at Kingston’s National Stadium. Local stars Kishane Thompson, Tina Clayton, and Shericka Jackson delivered standout victories, delighting the Jamaican crowd as they fine-tune preparations for the national championships later this month. The meet also featured international talent and strong performances across sprints, hurdles, and field events, with several athletes posting season’s best marks and record-equalling times.

Men's 100m

Olympic Games silver medalist Kishane Thompson stormed to a season’s best 9.88 seconds (0.0 m/s), the fourth fastest time in the world this year, to win the men’s 100m. Thompson led comfortably from the midway point and cruised to victory, signaling strong form ahead of Jamaica’s national trials.

Last year’s winner Oblique Seville closed well to finish second in a season’s best 9.97 seconds, while Gift Leotlela of South Africa took third in 10.04 seconds.

In the B race, Sandrey Davison clocked a season’s best 10.07 seconds (+0.8 m/s) to win, ahead of Kadrian Goldson (10.10) and Deandre Daley (10.19).

Women’s 100m

Two-time World U20 champion Tina Clayton delivered a breakthrough run, clocking a season’s best 10.98 seconds (+1.8 m/s) to win the women’s 100m — her first sub-11 clocking since 2022 and good for a share of sixth on this year’s world list.

American Jacious Sears finished second in 11.04 seconds, with 2024 World U20 champion Alana Reid taking third in 11.16 seconds, both also season’s bests.

In the B race, Jonielle Smith ran 11.10 seconds (+1.7 m/s) to win, followed by Kasheika Cameron (11.33) and high schooler Sabrina Dockery (11.34).

Women’s 200m

World Champion Shericka Jackson continued her build-up to the Jamaican nationals with a season’s best 22.53 seconds (+1.0 m/s) to win the women’s 200m — her second race over the distance this year, following a runner-up finish at the Diamond League in China.

Men’s 200m

Jamaican national champion Bryan Levell made a statement with a blistering 19.79 seconds (+2.5 m/s, wind-aided) to win the men’s 200m, dominating the field. Levell, a 2024 Olympic semi-finalist, was contesting just his second 200m of the season and looked in commanding form.

Women’s 100m Hurdles

American Alia Armstrong equalled the meet record with a season’s best 12.54 seconds (+1.1 m/s) to take the women’s 100m hurdles. The time matched the record set by former World Record holder Kendra Harrison and bettered Armstrong’s own season’s best from the previous weekend.

Men’s 110m Hurdles

Jamaica’s Rasheed Broadbell thrilled the home crowd by clocking a meeting record and season best 13.06 seconds to win a closely contested 110m hurdles final, narrowly edging American Trey Cunningham (13.08). Jamaicans Tyler Mason (13.41) and Odario Phillips (13.47) rounded out the top five.

Women’s Triple Jump

Cuba’s Davisleydi Velazco captured the women’s triple jump title with a leap of 14.26m (-1.9 m/s), securing victory in the field events.
