With race day fast approaching on Sunday, March 9, the Nagoya Women’s Marathon 2025 held a pre-race press conference today in Nagoya, Japan, where some of the world’s top female marathoners shared their goals and expectations. The event promises an exhilarating competition, not only for the athletes but also for sports fans worldwide.
Reigning TCS New York City Marathon champion Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya expressed confidence in her preparation, stating:
“My training went well. On Sunday, I want to perform at my best with a strong mindset, never giving up until I cross the finish line—just like the saying, ‘It’s not over until it’s over.’”
Her competitor, 2019 Tokyo Marathon champion Ruti Aga of Ethiopia, revealed an ambitious target:
“My goal is to break my personal best of 2:18:09.”
For Japan’s elite athletes, the Nagoya Women’s Marathon 2025 represents the final opportunity to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September.
Rika Kaseda, who represented Japan in the marathon at the 2023 World Championships, shared her clear objective:
“I’m aiming to finish under 2:20 and secure my spot on the national team. My strength is powerful running, and I plan to rely on it, especially after the 30 km mark.”
Meanwhile, Rino Goshima, a 2024 Paris Olympian in the 10,000m, will make her marathon debut with fierce determination:
“I will keep challenging myself and push beyond my limits until the very end.”
Beyond the elite competition, the Nagoya Women’s Marathon 2025 will welcome 20,000 female runners from around the world, all united by their love for the sport. Each finisher will receive an exclusive crystal tumbler from Baccarat and a New Balance finisher T-shirt, celebrating their achievement.
