Two-time Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone cruised to victory in the women's 400m hurdles at the Edwin Moses Legends Meet on Friday, 31 May. This race marked her return to the event after a 22-month hiatus.
McLaughlin-Levrone, the world record holder in the 400m hurdles, posted a time of 52.70 seconds. This quick but comfortable performance was enough to meet the entry standard for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. However, she will still need to secure her spot on Team USA at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, scheduled for 21-30 June in Eugene, Oregon.
With her time, McLaughlin-Levrone took the world lead in the women's 400m hurdles. Her position at the top might be challenged soon as Dutch world champion Femke Bol is set to start her season on Sunday, 2 June, at the 2024 Stockholm Diamond League.
Despite the long break from the event, McLaughlin-Levrone appeared incredibly comfortable and composed during the race. Reflecting on her performance, she acknowledged that there is still room for improvement. Speaking to a reporter from the American Track League, she stated, “We haven’t had much hurdle practice, so there’s a lot to improve.”
McLaughlin-Levrone's return to the 400m hurdles signals her strong form and determination as she gears up for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
