Niels Laros equalled the Dutch record in the 1500 meters on Saturday at the International Meeting Nikaia in Nice, France.

European junior champion Laros, who only turned 18 in April, clocked a blistering 3:32.89 for 1500m, taking second place behind Ireland’s Andrew Coscoran. His 3:32.89 equalled the Dutch record set by Gert-Jan Liefers in 2001.

Only Jakob Ingebrigtsen has run the 1500m faster among European U20 runners.

This is Laros' second record of the season. In May, he broke the national junior record in the 5000 meters at the IFAM Meeting in Belgium with a time of 13:23.01. On Saturday in Leiden, Netherlands, Dutch high schooler ran a stunning 1:45.80 personal best for 800m.
