Sydney McLaughlin clocked an astonishing 50.68 seconds to shatter her own 400m hurdles world record to win the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships 2022 in Oregon.
In the last 13 months, the 22-year-old McLaughlin broke the 400m hurdles world record four times. She destroyed her previous record of 51.14. less than a month ago.
"Honestly, I just wanted to run and go for it.
"That last 100 really hurt," she said.
"We thought we'd be able to go a little bit faster [than 50.68]," she told NBC Sports. "But we're super grateful for that time. Anything under 51 was a win for us."
The Olympic gold medalist crossed the line way ahead of Femke Bol (52.27 SB) of the Netherlands and the Dalilah Muhammad of the United States (53.13 SB).
