Simon Ehammer Leads Strong Field at Multistars Brescia 2026 Combined Events Meeting

World record-holder Simon Ehammer headlines the 39th edition of the Multistars Combined Events Meeting in Brescia on April 25-26, where the Swiss star opens his outdoor decathlon season against a deep international field. Following his historic world indoor heptathlon record earlier this year, Ehammer returns to one of the sport’s most respected combined events competitions aiming to set the tone for the 2026 campaign.
Ehammer will open his decathlon season in Brescia following a sensational indoor campaign, where he claimed his second world indoor heptathlon title with a world record of 6,670 points in Toruń last March. The Swiss star improved the previous record of 6,645 points set by Ashton Eaton at the 2012 World Indoor Championships in Istanbul. During that competition, Ehammer delivered outstanding performances, including a world-best 7.52 in the 60m hurdles, an 8.15m long jump just one centimetre shy of the championships record, and personal bests of 6.69 in the 60m and 2:41.04 in the 1000m. He also cleared 5.30m in the pole vault and 2.02m in the high jump, alongside a 14.87m shot put.
The Swiss all-rounder boasts an impressive résumé, including world indoor titles in 2024 and 2026, silver in Belgrade 2022, and European indoor silver in 2025. Outdoors, he earned a bronze medal in the long jump at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, a decathlon silver at the 2022 European Championships in Munich, and long jump bronze at the 2024 European Championships in Rome. Ehammer also captured two Diamond League titles in the long jump and set a Swiss decathlon record of 8,575 points in Götzis 2025, alongside a national long jump record of 8.45m.
Ehammer will be joined by a strong Swiss contingent, including his training partner Andrin Huber, the European U23 champion from Bergen 2025 with a personal best of 8,188 points, and Leon Krummenacher, European U20 bronze medallist in Tallinn 2025 with a PB of 7,972 points. Huber returns for his second Multistars appearance after placing sixth in 2024 with 7,638 points, while Nino Portmann, bronze medallist at the 2025 World University Games, adds further depth with a PB of 7,705 points.
South America will be represented by Brazil’s José Fernando Ferreira, a two-time South American champion who finished fourth in Brescia in 2023 with 7,937 points, and Colombia’s Julio Angulo, who set a national record of 8,009 points in Lima last December.
Sweden’s Marcus Nilsson will look to break the 8,000-point barrier again for the first time since 2022, when he scored 8,327 points at the European Championships in Munich. He returns to Brescia after finishing fifth last year with 7,674 points. Great Britain’s Harry Kendall also lines up, aiming to continue the nation’s strong tradition at Multistars following Lewis Church’s victory in 2025.
Italy fields a competitive group led by Lorenzo Naidon, the 2023 national indoor champion and third on the Italian all-time list with 8,090 points. He is joined by Andrea Cerrato, Italian indoor and outdoor champion in 2025, Alberto Nonino, Andrea Caiani, Lorenzo Mellano, and Jan Fragiacomo, all aiming to make an impact on home soil.
Women’s Heptathlon
Great Britain’s Niamh Emerson leads the women’s field as she continues her long-awaited return to combined events. Emerson won the world U20 title in Tampere 2018 with a personal best of 6,253 points and went on to claim European indoor silver in the pentathlon and Commonwealth Games bronze the same year. However, a serious knee injury in 2019 interrupted her progress, and she has not completed a full heptathlon since her world U20 triumph.
She will look to follow in the footsteps of British greats who have competed at Multistars, including Denise Lewis, Jessica Ennis-Hill, and Katarina Johnson-Thompson, all of whom used the meeting as a springboard to global success.
The field also features Sweden’s Lovisa Nilsson, who placed tenth at the European Championships in Rome 2024, Swiss athletes Sandra Rothlin and Mathilde Rey, USA’s Melanie Winters, Denmark’s Betty Jensen, Finland’s Vilma Itälinna, and Portugal’s Mariana Bento, the national record holder with 6,020 points.
