A sold-out crowd at the Athletics Hall in Banjica witnessed one of the strongest editions yet of the Belgrade Indoor Meeting on Wednesdy night, as world-leading marks, twelve meeting records and elite international performances lit up the Serbian capital. From Bozhidar Saraboyukov’s massive 8.45m long jump to Audrey Werro’s stunning 1:57.27 in the 800m and Roger Steen’s 22.07m shot put, Belgrade once again delivered a night of global-class indoor athletics.
Men’s Long Jump
European indoor champion Bozhidar Saraboyukov produced the performance of the night, winning the men’s long jump with a massive world-leading mark of 8.45m in the fifth round — just three days after jumping 8.39m in Metz.
Saraboyukov delivered an outstanding series that also included 8.23m, 8.26m and 8.29m, underlining his superb early-season form.
Reigning Olympic and European champion Miltiadis Tentoglou finished second with a seasonal best of 8.27m, while Jamaica’s Carey McLeod placed third with 8.22m (SB). Finland’s Kristian Pulli also surpassed eight metres with 8.08m (SB).
Bozhidar Saraboyukov:
"I’m extremely happy with this jump. 8.45 meters and the world lead — it’s an amazing feeling. I came to Belgrade believing I was in great shape, but to produce a performance like this so early in the season gives me a lot of confidence. The atmosphere here was fantastic, and I felt the energy from the crowd on every attempt. This result shows that the work my team and I have been putting in is paying off. But this is just the beginning."
Women’s 60 Metres
European indoor champion and world indoor silver medallist Zaynab Dosso dominated the women’s 60m final with a European-leading and meeting record time of 7.02. She had earlier clocked 7.05 in the heats.
Only Olympic champion Julien Alfred has run faster globally this year with 7.00 in Fayetteville.
Great Britain’s Amy Hunt equalled her personal best of 7.09 for second place, while Switzerland’s Geraldine Di Tizio Frey finished third in 7.19 (SB).
Zaynab Dosso:
"The race was technical. I have only one job: run. We are still working toward the World Championships, so I have more to do. But I’m happy to say I was fast. I love Belgrade!"
Women’s 800 Metres
Diamond League champion Audrey Werro delivered a sensational run to win the women’s 800m in a world-leading 1:57.27, also a Swiss indoor record.
It marked her third consecutive win this season following victories in Val de Reuil (1:57.49) and Madrid (2:00.68).
Austria’s Caroline Bredlinger finished second in 2:01.80, ahead of Portugal’s world indoor bronze medallist Patrícia Silva (2:02.80).
Audrey Werro:
"It’s really a great reward because I trained hard this winter and felt ready to run a big time today. I’m really happy with the time — and the atmosphere here was perfect."
