Taylor and Maxwell Complete Sprint Doubles as Records Fall at World Athletics U20 Championships

American sprinters Tate Taylor and Mia Maxwell completed impressive 100m-200m doubles as the fourth day of the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships delivered a string of outstanding performances at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

The evening also saw the United States' Le'Ezra Brown equal the world U20 record in the men's 110m hurdles, while Italy made history by winning the inaugural mixed 4x100m world U20 title in a world U20 record.

Taylor Completes Sprint Double With 19.83 Championship Record

Tate Taylor underlined his status as one of the standout athletes of the championships by storming to the men's 200m title in a championship record of 19.83 seconds.

The American had already captured the 100m crown in 9.94 earlier in the championships and returned to complete a memorable sprint double over the longer distance.

Taylor arrived in Eugene with impressive credentials, having clocked 19.75 at the Prefontaine Classic, and delivered when the medals were on the line to leave Oregon with two individual world U20 titles.

Mia Maxwell Adds 200m Gold to 100m Crown

Mia Maxwell matched Taylor's sprint double in the women's events, racing to the 200m title in a personal best of 22.37 seconds.

The American, who had already edged Jamaica's Shanoya Douglas for the 100m title, again came out on top in the 200m final. Douglas claimed silver in 22.68, while Maxwell's twin sister Mariah Maxwell secured bronze in 22.77.

Mia's victory completed a remarkable championships after her 11.14 triumph in the 100m, while the Maxwell sisters shared a World U20 podium in the 200m.

Brown Equals World U20 Record in 110m Hurdles

Le'Ezra Brown produced one of the performances of the championships in the men's 110m hurdles, flying to victory in 12.72 seconds with a legal +0.7m/s wind.

The American's performance equalled the world U20 record and gave the United States another gold medal on a hugely successful evening.

Japan's Jeremy Koga broke 13 seconds to take silver in 12.97, while another American, Zacchaeus Brocks, completed the podium in an equal-personal-best 12.98.

The United States also struck gold in the women's 100m hurdles, where Madeline Cooper won in 12.91. South Africa's Tumi Ramokgopa took silver in 12.96, just ahead of Jamaica's Tiana Marshall, who clocked a personal best of 12.97 for bronze.

Italy Sets World U20 Record in Mixed 4x100m Relay

Italy opened the evening finals in spectacular fashion by winning the inaugural mixed 4x100m relay world U20 title in a world U20 record of 41.21 seconds.

Great Britain pushed the Italians all the way and secured silver in 41.38, while the United States finished just one hundredth further back in 41.39 to take bronze.

Australia had also been in the medal battle before problems with the final baton exchange ended their hopes of reaching the podium.

Ethiopia Goes One-Two in Women's 3000m

Ethiopia dominated the women's 3000m final as Yordanos Tsigab and Shito Gumi secured the top two positions.

Tsigab produced a personal best of 8:43.65 to claim the world U20 title, with Gumi following in 8:45.06.

Uganda's Charity Cherop added another medal to her championships by taking bronze in 8:45.59 after having already won the women's 5000m title earlier in the week.

Sweden's Carmen Cernjul finished fourth in 8:52.60, setting a national U20 record.

Remic Edges Roussou in Dramatic Women's 800m Final

One of the closest finishes of the evening came in the women's 800m, where Slovenia's Živa Remic narrowly defeated Greece's Ioulianna Roussou.

Remic crossed the line in 2:03.03, only five hundredths of a second ahead of Roussou's 2:03.08.

Great Britain's Shaikira King secured the bronze medal in 2:03.52.

Inzoli Wins Long Jump by One Centimetre

The men's long jump provided another exceptionally close contest, with Italy's Daniele Leonardo Inzoli taking gold by just one centimetre.

Inzoli produced a best jump of 7.97m to hold off Australia's Mason McGroder, who improved his personal best to 7.96m for silver. India's Shahnavaz Khan claimed bronze with 7.84m.

Inzoli had shown his potential during qualifying by soaring to a personal best of 8.15m, and he backed up that performance when the medals were decided.

Khan's bronze represented a significant result for India, becoming the country's first men's long jump medal at the World U20 Championships.

Three-Way Battle Decides Men's High Jump

The men's high jump produced an unusual three-way tie at 2.21m, with the medals ultimately determined on countback.

Algeria's Younes Ayachi emerged as world U20 champion after clearing 2.21m, while India's Basant took silver with an equal-personal-best clearance at the same height.

Great Britain's Otis Poole also cleared 2.21m, improving his personal best on his way to bronze.

Basant's silver was another historic result for India, giving the country its first World U20 Championships medal in the men's high jump.

Krutilová Takes Women's Pole Vault Gold

Nicole Krutilová delivered gold for Czechia in the women's pole vault, clearing 4.45m to secure the world U20 title.

Ukraine's Olha Belchenko cleared 4.40m, equalling her personal best to earn silver, while American Kylie Neira produced a personal best of 4.35m to claim bronze.

Belo da Silva Wins Decathlon Title

Sweden's Liam Belo da Silva completed the two-day men's decathlon with a world U20-leading total of 8,112 points to take gold.

Belo da Silva entered the concluding 1500m in control of the competition and clocked 4:39.51 to secure the title.

Mikai Snoek of the Netherlands finished second with a personal-best 7,887 points, while Czechia's Adam Juliš was just 10 points behind, earning bronze with a personal best of 7,877.
