Trayvon Bromell handed Olympic champion Noah Lyles his first defeat of the 2026 season, while Audrey Werro produced one of the greatest women's 800m performances in history at a spectacular Wanda Diamond League meeting in Paris on Sunday (28). Armand Duplantis also returned to winning form with a meeting record in the pole vault as several world-leading and Diamond League records highlighted an unforgettable evening at Stade Charléty.

The men's 100 metres delivered one of the biggest surprises of the season as Bromell powered to victory in 9.91 seconds, edging Lyles by just one hundredth of a second. The win ended Lyles' unbeaten run in 2026 after the American struggled out of the blocks. Tokyo Olympic champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs continued his encouraging comeback with a season's best 9.96 for third place, while South Africa's Akani Simbine clocked 9.97 in fourth.

The performance of the meeting came in the women's 800 metres, where Switzerland's Audrey Werro stormed to a sensational Diamond League record of 1:53.80. The 22-year-old moved to third on the all-time world list, producing the third-fastest performance ever and moving within striking distance of Jarmila Kratochvilova's long-standing world record of 1:53.28. Werro's remarkable run further cemented her status as one of the sport's brightest stars and set the stage for a potential world-record attempt later this season.

Olympic champion Armand Duplantis once again dominated the men's pole vault, clearing a meeting record 6.13m before taking three unsuccessful attempts at a world-record height of 6.32m. Although the Swede fell short of improving his global mark, he comfortably secured another Diamond League victory.

Botswana's Busang Collen Kebinatshipi delivered another record-breaking performance, winning the men's 400 metres in a Diamond League record of 43.54. Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic continued her outstanding campaign by winning the women's 400 metres in a world-leading time.

World champion Marco Arop controlled the men's 800 metres from the front, opening a decisive gap over the final 300 metres before crossing the finish line in 1:41.84, nearly two seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Australia's Cameron Myers enjoyed the biggest victory of his young career in the men's 1500 metres, smashing the Australian record with 3:28.00 to defeat a world-class field. In the women's 1500 metres, Britain's Georgia Hunter Bell produced a strong finishing kick to win in a season's best 3:55.63.

The men's 5000 metres also featured a high-quality contest as American Grant Fisher claimed victory in 12:54.80 ahead of Kenya's Jacob Krop, while Sweden's Andreas Almgren recovered from a near fall to finish third.

With Bromell's upset victory over Lyles, Werro's historic 800m, Duplantis' meeting record and multiple Diamond League records across the programme, Paris once again lived up to its reputation as one of the premier stops on the Wanda Diamond League circuit, producing several of the finest performances of the 2026 season.
