The 2025 Wiesław Czapiewski Memorial concluded on Sunday, July 27, with thrilling performances and record-breaking results in both the men’s decathlon and women’s heptathlon at the World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold meeting in Nakło nad Notecią, Poland.

In front of an enthusiastic crowd, Czech Republic’s Ondřej Kopecký produced a sensational all-around performance to win the men’s decathlon with a meeting record of 8,254 points, marking a season’s best and continuing his rise as one of Europe’s top multi athletes. Kopecký’s consistency across all ten events saw him edge ahead of compatriot Vilém Stráský, who finished second with a personal best of 8,136 points, and Estonia’s Risto Lillemets, who secured third with 8,107 points.

India’s Tejaswin Shankar also made headlines by finishing just outside the podium in fourth, setting a new Indian national record of 7,826 points, breaking the long-standing mark and achieving three personal bests, including a standout 4:31.80 in the 1500 meters.

In the women’s heptathlon, Poland’s own Adrianna Sułek-Schubert successfully defended her title with a commanding total of 6,287 points, her best score of the season. The 2023 world silver medallist delivered strong marks in the high jump, javelin, and 800 meters, much to the delight of the home crowd. She was followed closely by Germany’s Vanessa Grimm (6,249 SB) and Austria’s Verena Mayr (6,159 SB), both turning in season-best performances of their own.

The event, which honors the late Polish athletics coach Wiesław Czapiewski, once again brought together many of Europe’s premier combined-events athletes and continues to serve as a key stop on the international calendar ahead of the Paris Olympic Games.
