EUGENE, Ore. (July 5, 2025) — In a breathtaking finale to the 2025 Prefontaine Classic, Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon shattered her own 1500m world record, clocking 3:48.68 to better her previous mark of 3:49.04 set last year in Paris. The historic run capped off an extraordinary evening at Hayward Field, marking the second women’s world record of the meet, following Beatrice Chebet’s sub-14 minute stunner in the 5000m earlier in the night.
Kipyegon, already the Olympic and world champion, once again proved why she’s the queen of middle-distance running, commanding the race from the start and pulling the field to record-breaking territory.
Behind her, Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji set a massive personal best of 3:51.44 for second, while Australia’s Jessica Hull set a new season’s best of 3:52.67 in third.
