Defending World 1,500m Champion Elijah Manangoi Pulls Out of Doha With Injury

Kenya's 1500m World champion Elijah Manangoi iis injured and will not compete at the Doha World championships, the athlete announced today on Twitter.

Manangoi suffered from an ankle injury earlier this month and was unable to recover on time for Doha World athletics championships.

"Sad that I am not able to defend my 1500m title in Doha WC due to an ankle injury I picked in training I had no choice, it's not my fault. But GOD knows the reason why. All my Fans in the World, to Continue to have faith in me. All the best to my teammates,. Make DOHA fan." Manangoi wrote on Twitter today.

Kenya will be represented in the men's 1500m in Doha by World leader Timoty Cheruiyot (3:28.77), Ronald Kwemoi (3:33.99 SB) and 18-year-old George Manangoi (3:31.49 PB/SB), the youngest brother of Elijah.
