The first athletics event will be the men's and women's marathon which will takes place on Thursday, July 28. The track and field action of the Commonwealth Games will run from Tuesday, August 2 through Sunday, August 7 at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, UK.

This is the third time that England will host the Commonwealth Games after London in 1930 and Manchester in 2002, and the seventh edition to take place in the UK.
