The Tokyo Marathon 2026 will take place on Sunday, March 1, with nearly 39,000 runners set to line up in the Japanese capital for one of the World Marathon Majors’ fastest courses. The race will start at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku, with the marathon and 10.7km events beginning at 9:10 a.m. JST, while the wheelchair races go off at 9:05 a.m. JST. The finish is once again located at Tokyo Station on Gyoko-dori Avenue.

In the men’s race, standout names include Alexander Mutiso, who owns a 2:03:11 personal best, alongside Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega and other sub-2:03 performers aiming for a breakthrough on Japanese soil. The women’s field is equally strong, headlined by former world record holder Brigid Kosgei, two-time Tokyo champion Sutume Asefa Kebede, and a competitive group of international contenders targeting fast times.
