The three time Olympic champion and multiple times world champion Bekele injured himself after he fell down hard shorty after the start the gun went off.
It was obvious that the fall had impacted Bekele as he was not able to sustain the lead pack's pace and at 22km Ethiopian superstar to drop out as he started to fell cramps in his right calf.
Nevertheless, Bekele later in the day announced that his health is good and he will be ready in April for London Marathon.
"Sorry for disappointing result was not able to show the good shape I was in due to due to unexpected incident at strat. I will be back:'' Bekele wrote on his Twitter page.
"I Was at least in the same shape as in Berlin and ready for something special today, but after the fall just after the start m y body was out of balance and I got cramps in the left calf trying to run at World Record pace. I like to think of many scenarios, but this definitely not one of them! See you in April in London" Bekele later added.
