Puerto Rico’s Owens-Delerme and Colombia's Araujo Shine at 2025 Décastar in Talence

Puerto Rico’s Ayden Owens-Delerme claimed victory in the men’s decathlon at the 2025 Décastar, scoring 8478 points on his debut at the World Athletics Combined Events Tour Gold meeting in Talence. He led overnight and capped his win with a 4:29.78 finish in the 1500m. Estonia’s Johannes Erm took second with 8236, while Kendrick Thompson of The Bahamas placed third with 8177.

Owens-Delerme impressed early with a 10.48 in the 100m and a 46.43 meet record in the 400m. Despite challenges from Thompson, France’s Teo Bastien, and Erm throughout the 10 events, the Puerto Rican remained composed and consistent, sealing his triumph with strong performances in the hurdles, javelin, and 1500m.

In the women’s heptathlon, Martha Araujo of Colombia successfully defended her title, scoring 6451 points, the second-best total of her career. USA’s Taliyah Brooks was runner-up with 6365, followed by Michelle Atherley, who closed strong with a 2:06.68 in the 800m to finish third with 6283.

Araujo moved into the lead after a 49.44m javelin throw and held off Brooks despite running 2:19.09 in the final event. Croatia’s Jana Koscak and Lithuania’s Beatrice Juskeviciute also put up notable performances, with the latter finishing fourth.
