Multistars in Brescia: Day One Recap of the World Athletics Combined Events Tour - Gold

USA's Talliyah Brooks and France's Teo Bastien have taken the lead after the first day of the Multistars competition at the Athletics Stadium Gabre Gabric in Brescia, part of the World Athletics Combined Events Tour - Gold.

In the women's heptathlon, Brooks emerged as the fastest in the 100 meters hurdles, clocking 13.15 seconds despite a strong headwind of -2.3 m/s, edging out Sweden's Lovisa Karlsson (13.47). In a separate heat, Great Britain's Jade O’Dowda, who was the runner-up at last year's Multistars and a bronze medalist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, secured victory with 13.87 against a headwind of -2.8 m/s, defeating USA's Shaina Burns (14.23) and Ireland's Kate O’Connor (14.24).

In the high jump, Sweden's Bianca Salming cleared 1.83m to secure first place, positioning herself in fourth overall with 1883 points. Brooks maintained her lead by clearing 1.77m, totaling 2044 points. Karlsson's 1.71m jump placed her second overall with 1922 points, while O'Dowda's 1.74m clearance earned her third place with 1900 points.

Austria's Ivona Dadic excelled in the shot put, throwing 14.55m to win, with Salming coming second with 14.11m. Brooks's 200m run in 23.92 seconds, despite a -0.8 m/s headwind, extended her lead. She ended the day as the overnight leader with 3767 points, with Norway's Ida Eikeng trailing her with 3547 points.

In the men's decathlon, Switzerland's Nino Portmann ran the fastest 100 meters in 10.91 seconds against a -0.6 m/s headwind. Bastien leapt 7.82m to win the long jump, maintaining his lead with 2686 points after a throw of 13.92m in the shot put. In the high jump, Cuba's Josmi Sanchez Medina emerged on top by clearing 2.04m.

Italy's Andrea Cerrato won the 400 meters in 48.20 seconds, while Belgium's Robin Bodart won the second heat of the 100 meters, clocking 10.93 seconds into a -1.4 m/s headwind. Hauttekeete's 2.01m high jump propelled him to second place overall with 4153 points, just one point behind overnight leader Bastien, who clocked 50.10 seconds in the one-lap event. Santiago Ford from Chile is third with 3997 points.
