Wayde van Niekerk, dos Santos and Ta Lou highlighted Gala dei Castelli in Bellinzona, Switzerland on Monday, September 12.

South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk won the 400m, setting the 10th fastest time in the world this year at 44.33 seconds. The 2016 Olympic champion narrowly defeated the 2012 Olympic games gold medalist, Grenada's Kirani James, who clocked 44.38 to take second. Zakhiti Nene from South Africa (45.75) rounded out the podium.

Alison dos Santos of Brazil, who won the World championships gold in July, took an easy win in the men's 400m hurdles, running 47.61. He broke his own meeting record of 48.15 set a year ago.

Marie-Josee Ta Lou from Ivory Coast took the women's 100m, clocking a 10.86. She finished ahead of Great Britain's Olympic and World championships medalist Daryll Neita (11.00). Egypt's Bassant Hemida (11.07) was third. Jamaica's 200m world champion Shericka Jackson was only fifth at 11.19 seconds.
The men's 100m saw Team USA take first and third with Brandon Carnes clocking a 10.04 to win and Kendal Williams taking bronze at 10.05. Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya (10.05) came in second.

Elsewhere, Tokyo 2020 athletics Olympic gold medallists Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, who finished third at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in July, clocked  12.72 to win the women's 100m hurdles. American Nia Ali was second with 12.80, while Poland's Pia Skrzyszowska was third at 12.95.

Gala dei Castelli is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour silver level meetings.
