Van Nieker wins South Africa's Sportsman of the year award

Wayde van Niekerk received South Africa's Sportsman of the year award.

The 23-year-old 400m runner beat downhill mountain-biker Greg Minnaar and swimmer Chad le Clos to win the prestigious prize at the 10th annual awards held in Bloemfontein on Sunday, November 23.

In August in Beijing, van Niekerk sensationally won the world championships gold medal over 400m. In the 400m final he defeated Olympic champion Kirani James and world champion LaShawn Merritt to win the world championships gold. His winning time of 43.48 was the 6th fastest time in history.
