Yusuf Bizimana, a standout athlete at the University of Texas and a prominent British runner, has set a new NCAA collegiate record in the men's 1,000 meters. In his first indoor season race and his debut in the 1,000-meter event, Bizimana recorded a remarkable time of 2 minutes, 18.10 seconds. This performance took place at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet, held at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday, January 12.

With this achievement, Bizimana surpassed the previous 1,000-meter collegiate record of 2:18.26, set in 2016 by Brannon Kidder of Penn State during the Nittany Lion Challenge in State College, Pennsylvania. Bizimana also took down the 37-year old Texas record set by Pablo Squella (2:21.19) in 1986. This feat also solidifies Bizimana's status as the reigning NCAA Division 1 indoor 800-meter champion.

Moreover, Bizimana's time places him fourth on the all-time list of British runners in this event. He is now one of only four collegiate athletes in history to complete the 1,000 meters in under 2:19 on a banked or oversized track, marking a significant milestone in his athletic career.

Devynne Charlton of The Bahamas, a world indoor silver medalist, impressed in the 60 meters hurdles. Charlton finished her heat with a sub-eight-second time, clocking in at 7.99 seconds.
