Michael Saruni a sophmore from UTEP (University of Texas el Paso) smashed the NCAA 800m record on Saturday night at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Arizona.
The 23-year-old Kenyan clocked an impressive 1:43.25 beating previous NCAA record by 0.30 seconds. The old NCAA 800m belonged to Donovan Brazier who ran 1:43.55 in 2016 season. Saruni's 1:43.25 is also a new World lead in 2018.
During 2018 indoor season Saruni won NCAA indoor title and broke 600m world record holder record with 1:14.79.
