Eliud Kipchoge and Tigist Assefa were crowned BMW BERLIN-MARATHON champions. Kipchoge took the title with a new world record of 2:01:09. His fellow-Kenyan Mark Korir took second with 2:05:58. Ethiopia’s Tadu Abate was third in 2:06:28. Meanwhile Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa ran the race of her life in excellent weather conditions. The 26 year-old had entered the marathon with a PB of 2:34:01 and stormed to a 2:15:37 victory. Tigist Assefa became the third fastest marathon runner in history, clocked a world leading time, a national record and smashed the course record.
