In her indoor season opener, Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh set an early high jump world lead at the Demyanyuk Memorial in Lviv on Saturday (14).
The World indoor champion opened her series with a nervous start as she failed twice her opening height of 1.86m. Mahuchikh managed to stay in the by clearing 1.89m on her only attempt left.
From there, Mahuchikh produced a first-time clearance at 1.95m to close the victory from her fellow Ukrainian Iryna Gerashchenko, the 2021 European indoor silver medalist behind Mahuchikh.
Mahuchikh was the only high jumper left in the field. The 21-year-old, with ease, cleared a new World lead at 1.97m and then 2.00m. She also had a couple of decent shots at 2.03m, a height she has comfortably cleared many times.
