Two athletes who have both run in Vienna before are among the hot favorites for Sunday’s Vienna City Marathon. Bethwell Yegon returns after finishing runner-up in last year’s race. With a personal best of 2:06:14 the Kenyan is the second fastest on the start list, just three seconds behind Chala Regasa. When the Ethiopian competed in Austria’s capital it was a very different mission. He was part of the pacemaking team that guided Eliud Kipchoge to the sensational sub 2:00:00 marathon in 2019.
Nazret Weldu, the Eritrean long distance runner, is among a number of athletes who target a last minute qualification for the Olympic Games in August at the Vienna City Marathon. Weldu is the favourite in the women’s race and could produce the first ever Eritrean victory in the history of Austria’s major road running event.

German winners Amanal Petros (2:06:05) and Domenika Mayer (2:23:50) smashed the course records at the ADAC Marathon Hannover.
Olympic silver medallist Abdi Nageeye won the Rotterdam Marathon for the second time in his career with a new Dutch record of 2:04:45. Ethiopia’s Ashete Bekere won the women’s race in 2:19:30 ahead of Viola Kibiwot (2:20:57) and Sally Kaptich (2:22:47).
Noah Lyles narrowly defeated Kenneth Bednarek clocking 10.01 seconds. Kyree King was third in 10.02 and Hakim Sani Brown was 4th in 10.04.
