Karsten Warholm and Armand Duplantis, both world record holders in their respective fields, are set to face off in a unique 100m sprint showdown in Zurich. This event, highly anticipated due to its unusual pairing, will take place on September 4, 2024, at the Letzigrund Stadium. The race is a part of a promotional event the day before the Zurich Diamond League Weltklasse meet.

Both athletes are venturing outside their comfort zones for this challenge. Warholm, a specialist in the 400m hurdles, last ran a 100m race in 2017, clocking a personal best of 10.49 seconds. Duplantis, on the other hand, whose primary event is pole vaulting, recorded a wind-aided 10.57 seconds during his high school years in 2018. The showdown has been building up for over a year, starting with a playful challenge during a training session in Monaco.
