The Virginia Challenge 2026 returns to Lannigan Field in Charlottesville this weekend, April 17–18, bringing together many of the top collegiate track and field athletes in the United States for one of the final major meets before the championship phase of the outdoor season.

Hosted by the University of Virginia, the two-day competition has become a key stop on the NCAA calendar, particularly for athletes seeking qualifying marks for regionals and nationals. The meet consistently attracts deep fields from Power Five programs and elite East Coast teams, creating a highly competitive environment across all disciplines.

The Virginia Challenge is especially known for its fast distance races, with strong sections in the 800m, 1500m, and 5000m often producing personal bests at this stage of the season. With its timing—just one week ahead of the Penn Relays—the meet offers an ideal opportunity for athletes to sharpen form and test race strategies against high-level competition.
