The 2026 Stawell Gift returns over the Easter weekend from April 4–6 at Central Park in Stawell, Victoria, bringing together more than 600 athletes for one of the most unique and prestigious sprint carnivals in the world.
Now in its 144th edition, the historic meet continues to showcase its signature 120-meter handicap format, where athletes start from staggered marks based on ability—creating dramatic, tactical races rarely seen in modern athletics. Contested on a traditional grass surface, the event demands not only speed but also strength and race awareness, adding another layer of unpredictability.
The event will be broadcast live in Australia on Channel Seven on Easter Monday from 11:30 am AEST, with full coverage on 7Plus all weekend.
The three-day program builds toward Monday’s highly anticipated finals, with heats and semifinals unfolding across Saturday and Sunday. The headline races—the men’s and women’s Stawell Gift finals—offer $40,000 to each winner, part of a total prize pool exceeding $155,000 across the carnival.
Alongside the main event, the schedule features a full slate of handicap races ranging from 70 meters to 1600 meters, including youth and middle-distance events, ensuring broad participation and a vibrant festival atmosphere.
First held in 1878, the Stawell Gift remains Australia’s most famous professional footrace and a career-defining title for sprinters. As the 2026 edition approaches its climax, all eyes will be on the famous Central Park straight, where timing, tactics, and nerve will once again decide who claims one of the sport’s most coveted prizes.
