The 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is set to deliver one of the most significant editions in the event’s history when runners take to the streets of South Africa’s iconic coastal city on 24 May 2026. More than just another marathon, the race continues its push to become the first African event to join the Abbott World Marathon Majors series, placing global attention firmly on Cape Town.
Organisers have assembled the strongest elite field ever announced for the race, featuring 14 men with personal bests under 2:08 and nine women under 2:22, including several athletes already faster than the existing course records. The event also gained worldwide attention with the confirmation that Eliud Kipchoge will race in Cape Town, marking the legendary Kenyan’s first-ever marathon appearance on African soil.
