Japan’s premier winter road race returns on Sunday, February 1, as the 78th edition of the Kagawa Marugame International Half Marathon once again brings world-class distance running to the streets of Marugame. Long known for its flat, speed-friendly course and crisp early-season conditions, the event continues to hold World Athletics Elite Label status and traditionally delivers some of the fastest half-marathon times of the year.
The race will be broadcast live on BS Fuji, with coverage beginning on Sunday, February 1 at 10:30 p.m. local time (GMT+9).
Racing will start in staggered waves from 10:35 a.m. local time, with registered A, B and C groups heading out at short intervals to keep the course flowing smoothly. The weekend program also includes youth and community races the day before, giving the meet a festive, city-wide feel around Marugame Stadium.
Early elite lists point to strong international matchups. In the women’s race, British standout Eilish McColgan headlines a competitive field alongside several proven road specialists. The men’s contest features a mix of Japanese contenders and experienced European and African athletes, setting the stage for an aggressive, fast-paced battle from the gun.
