The Elgoibar Cross Country Juan Muguerza Memorial will return on Sunday, 18 January 2026, bringing world-class cross country racing back to the iconic Mintxeta circuit in Elgoibar.
Celebrating its 82nd edition, the historic Basque meeting remains one of Europe’s most prestigious winter cross country events and holds World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold status. First staged in 1943, the race is named in memory of Spanish running legend Juan Muguerza and has long been a proving ground for Olympic and world-level athletes.
The Elgoibar Juan Muguerza International Cross Country will be streamed live and free on the EITB Sports website, with coverage running from 12:15 pm to 2:00 pm local time (GMT+1).
The Mintxeta course is renowned for its classic cross country terrain, featuring grass fields, rolling sections, mud, and natural obstacles that demand strength, endurance, and tactical awareness. Competition will begin from around 9:30 am local time, with a full programme of youth, junior, and elite races unfolding throughout the morning.
