The 2026 World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships will take place on Sunday, April 12, in Brasília, marking a historic edition for the global discipline. Organized by World Athletics, the event will be held in the Southern Hemisphere for the first time, signaling a major step in the sport’s global expansion.

This 31st edition introduces a new era for race walking, with the traditional 20km and 35km events replaced by the half marathon (21.1km) and marathon (42.195km) distances. The updated format is designed to align more closely with mainstream road racing while testing athletes over longer endurance efforts. U20 competitions will continue over 10km for both men and women.

A strong international turnout is expected, with 300 to 400 athletes from around 40–50 nations competing for both individual honors and team titles. As always, the team classification will be determined by the combined performances of each nation’s top finishers, adding a strategic layer to the competition.
