The world’s top distance runners are set to converge in Uasin Gishu County on Saturday, 6 December 2025, for the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run, a World Athletics Cross Country Tour – Gold meeting. Hosted at Chepkemel Secondary School on the edge of Eldoret, the event has rapidly become one of the premier cross country races on the global calendar.
The event will be streamed live for free on the Athletics Kenya YouTube channel. The lve coverage is scheduled to start at 8:00 am local time (GMT +2).
This year’s edition promises another thrilling showdown across the challenging Chepsaita terrain, a course renowned for its hills, valleys, technical turns, river crossing and the signature “shower point”. More than 10,000 runners from over 40 countries are expected to take part across 12 race categories, spanning youth divisions to the elite senior 10 km races.
The women’s 10 km brings back Ugandan star and defending champion Loice Chekwemoi, who faces stiff opposition from Kenya’s Rebecca Mwangi, African 10,000m silver medallist and national 5000m champion. Uganda’s Rispa Cherop and South Africa’s rising talent Phemelo Matshaba add even more depth to the field.
In the men’s 10 km, 2023 winner Ishmael Rokitto Kipkurui returns to take on a strong line-up that includes Uganda’s Martin Kiprotich, middle-distance standout George Manangoi, Botswana’s Lopang Oontse, and South Africa’s Collins Kgadima—all building toward the 2026 World Cross Country Championships.
