The 2025 DATEV Challenge Roth, set for Sunday, July 6, promises to be a triathlon spectacle of historic proportions as reigning IRONMAN World Champions Laura Philipp of Germany and Sam Laidlow of France headline an elite professional field. Widely regarded as the world’s most atmospheric long-distance triathlon, Challenge Roth returns to the Bavarian town with a sold-out roster of over 3,500 individual starters and 700 relay teams, cheered on by more than 300,000 spectators.

LIVE STREAMING

The event will be streamed live for free on YouTube, with the live coverage starting at 6:15 AM Central European Time (GMT +2).

The Stars of Challenge Roth

On the men’s side, Laidlow will face stiff competition from Tom Bishop (GBR), last year’s runner-up, Jan Stratmann (GER, 4th in 2024), three-time Olympian and Ironman 70.3 winner Vincent Luis (FRA), and Jesper Svensson (SWE), who placed second in 2019. The women’s race will see Philipp take on Fenella Langridge (GBR, 4th in 2023), rising Aussie star Grace Thek, and veteran Laura Siddall (GBR).

In addition to the pro showdown, the age-group start list features an inspiring mix of well-known personalities. Former German football star André Schürrle, endurance legend Jonas Deichmann—famed for completing 120 full triathlons in 120 days—and ex-NHL and Boston Bruins icon Zdeno Chára (SVK) will take on the iconic 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike, and 42.2 km run through the heart of Franconia.

New Features and Upgrades in 2025

The event also introduces several upgrades for 2025: enhanced anti-doping controls, a new athlete tracking app, improved bike check-in logistics, and expanded camping facilities near the swim start.

With world records set just last year—Magnus Ditlev (7:23:24) and Anne Haug (8:02:35)—and the return of Solar Hill’s thunderous crowds, Challenge Roth 2025 is shaping up to be a defining moment in triathlon history.
