Course Details - Maratona di Ravenna Città d’Arte
The Maratona di Ravenna Città d’Arte offers one of Europe’s most captivating and scenic city marathon experiences — combining a flat, fast route ideal for personal bests with a tour of Ravenna’s UNESCO World Heritage monuments and vibrant urban and natural landscapes.
Starting at Pala De André on Viale Europa, runners immediately settle into wide, straight boulevards designed to absorb the large field before the course winds gently into Ravenna’s historic heart. The route soon passes through the Basilica di San Vitale and the Mausoleo di Galla Placidia, world-famous for their glittering Byzantine mosaics dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries.
City and Heritage Highlights
Historic Centre: The first 10 km lead runners past Via di Roma, Basilica di Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, and Battistero Neoniano, immersing participants in Ravenna’s ancient charm. The cobblestone stretches are minimal, ensuring comfort and speed without compromising the visual experience.
Parks and Green Corridors: Midway, the marathon traverses Parco Teodorico and Parco della Rocca Brancaleone, where shaded paths and tree-lined avenues provide a refreshing contrast to the city streets.
Outskirts and Open Roads: The course then extends to the quiet periphery of Ravenna, offering long, straight roads perfect for maintaining steady rhythm and pace.
The half marathon follows much of this same loop before finishing near the MAR – Museo d’Arte della Città di Ravenna, while the marathon continues further out before looping back toward the finish downtown.
Finish Line Experience
The final stretch brings runners through Via di Roma, with the finish line set beside the MAR museum and Basilica di Santa Maria in Porto. Here, athletes are welcomed by enthusiastic spectators, confetti cannons, and a symbolic finisher medal inspired by Ravenna’s famous mosaics — making the finale both festive and culturally rich.
