Course Description - 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship Marbella
The 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship course in Marbella, Spain, delivers one of the most scenic and challenging routes in the history of the event — a blend of Mediterranean beauty, mountain elevation, and urban flair.
Swim – 1.9 km (Mediterranean Sea)
Athletes will begin with a single-loop, 1.9 km swim starting from Playa de Puerto Banús, one of Marbella’s iconic beaches. The swim takes place in the clear, calm waters of the Mediterranean, offering mild temperatures and minimal currents. Spectators can line the beach for excellent viewing, and athletes can expect a fast, wetsuit-legal swim depending on water temperature.
Bike – 90 km (Marbella – Ojén – Monda – Coín – Cártama)
The 90 km bike course showcases the region’s dramatic terrain, starting along the coast before climbing inland toward the whitewashed mountain villages.
The first section rolls through Marbella and Ojén, featuring a steady climb with panoramic views of the coastline.
The route then winds through Monda and Coín, where athletes face technical descents and undulating roads, demanding both power and handling skill.
The final stretch heads through Cártama before returning toward the coast for a fast finish back in Marbella.
Total elevation gain is moderate-to-high for a 70.3 course, offering a balanced mix of climbing, descents, and flat sections—rewarding versatile riders.
Run – 21.1 km (Marbella Promenade)
The half-marathon run is set along Marbella’s stunning paseo marítimo (seaside promenade), featuring two flat loops between the city center and Puerto Banús. Athletes will run beside the sea with lively crowd support, beachside restaurants, and palm-lined views.
Aid stations are positioned every 2 km, ensuring hydration and nutrition are well supported under the Andalusian sun.
Finish Line – Marbella City Center
The race concludes in central Marbella with a spectacular beachfront finish, where crowds gather to cheer on competitors against the backdrop of the Mediterranean. Expect a festival-like atmosphere with live commentary, music, and the distinctive IRONMAN red carpet moment.
