Course Description - Košice Peace Marathon
The Košice Peace Marathon course is a flat, fast, and scenic two-loop route that winds through the heart of Slovakia’s historic second city. Known for its smooth asphalt roads and minimal elevation gain (approximately 74 meters in total), it offers ideal conditions for both elite athletes and amateur runners aiming for personal bests.
Start and Finish
The race starts and finishes on Hlavná Street, the elegant main boulevard of Košice. The start area lies between the DoubleTree by Hilton and the Dargov department store, with the finish line set in front of the Peace Marathon Square (Námestie maratónu mieru) — home to the famous marathon statue.
Route Overview
Runners set off from the city center, passing Košice’s Gothic gem — St. Elisabeth Cathedral, the largest church in Slovakia — before moving through the charming streets of the Old Town. The course then extends into the wider urban area, featuring long, straight sections designed for fast pacing.
The first loop gives runners a full taste of the city’s mix of old and new architecture, leafy boulevards, and lively neighborhoods. The second loop retraces the same route, allowing participants to gauge their pacing and enjoy the cheering crowds that line the streets.
