Norway's Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal and Kenya's Abel Kipchumba emerged victorious in the United Airlines NYC Half, recording times of 1:09:09 and 1:00:25, respectively, under cold and hilly conditions. At 33, Grøvdal, celebrated for winning the European Athletics cross country championship three times, became the inaugural European female victor of the race since Britain's Mara Yamauchi in 2010. Meanwhile, 30-year-old Kipchumba, the B.A.A. Half-Marathon champion from last November in Boston, marked himself as the ninth Kenyan male to clinch the title in the race's 17-year span.
